AI essay grading - acquired 2024 - bootstrapped
👤 Chan Yerneni (Former teacher who co-founded a school in India that scaled to 700 students. He bought a pain he had lived.)🌐 site

He paid to skip idea validation and product-market fit, then spent his first year talking to 300-400 teachers.

Will it work? · our read
Bought the demand. The unbuyable part, evidence that teachers would pay, was already done. Chan paid for it and supplied the one thing the builder never had: a former teacher's access to classrooms.

Read the provenance before the numbers. Both revenue sources are Acquire.com properties: bootstrappers.com is "Powered by Acquire.com" and its author's own listed site is acquire.com. The marketplace that brokered this deal is the only publisher of its outcome, and it has an obvious incentive to make acquisitions look good. The two disagree on the number that matters most: Acquire says he bought "$5K MRR", Bootstrappers says it was "bringing in $8,000 a month". They also disagree on growth - Acquire's headline claims 10x while Bootstrappers (Mar 2025) says "over five times more". Our headline, "on track to cross $1M in ARR", is a July 2025 projection, not a booked figure; we did not sharpen it into a point estimate, and no ARR has been published since. The purchase price was never disclosed, so the multiple is unknown. EssayGrader's own site never mentions the acquisition and lists Chan as "Founder & CEO" - the purchase is documented only by Acquire's publications. The one figure the company states first-party is "100,000+ teachers", read on its live site on Jul 17, 2026. Neither cited source confirms the teaching level or a school-administrator title; Chan's own quote says only "I was a former teacher", and Bootstrappers describes him co-founding a school that scaled to 700 students - a founding role, not a confirmed classroom or admin post, so the card no longer states either as fact. Because no revenue figure appears on any company-owned property, verified is false. Chan's LinkedIn returns HTTP 999 to us, so we did not link what we could not open. We never score you.
