Managed talent marketplace, bootstrapped
👤 Aleksandr Volodarsky (Ran task-marketplace Coding Ninjas 5 years first; that taught him to vet devs and price offshore labor, lemon's real edge.)🌐 sitevolodarik.comLinkedIn

It matches startups with vetted devs in about a day, and keeps only 20-25% where rivals keep up to 60%.

Will it work? · our read
Cheaper middleman. Bootstrapped and profitable, it keeps about a fifth of billings where Toptal-style rivals take up to 60%. Fast vetted matches, no VC, thin margins.

Mixergy — Volodarsky states 2020 GMV of $2.7 million, a $10 million 2021 GMV goal, and a 20-25% take vs rivals' 40-60%.volodarik.com — founder's own site calls lemon.io 'a $15M talent marketplace'.lemon.io — homepage stats: 1.2% acceptance, 2K+ hires, about 24h match, 10+ years.GetLatka — third-party estimate: $15.3M revenue (2023).Medium teardown — $7M GMV per year (2021).
GMV is not revenue. The $15M headline is the founder's own words for the marketplace's size (client billings), from his personal site, which gives no date for the figure (Latka's $15.3M 2023 estimate corroborates it). Lemon.io collects all client payments and keeps only its 20-25% fee, so its net take is roughly $3-4M, which it has not separately disclosed. In the Mixergy interview Volodarsky stated $2.7M GMV in 2020 and a $10M GMV goal for 2021, and that lemon keeps 20-25% where rivals keep 40-60%. Homepage marketplace stats (1.2% acceptance, 2K+ hires, about 24h match) are self-reported, not audited. Bootstrapped, no VC. First-party throughout, so verified, but treat $15M as billings-scale, not net revenue. We never score you.
