Stukent

Simternships + digital courseware · founded 2013
👤 Stu Draper (First-time adjunct marketing professor, frustrated by outdated textbooks: he lived the pain and knew how to sell to faculty.)🌐 site𝕏LinkedIn

A professor sick of stale textbooks built always-current courseware, hitting about $10M revenue on under $1M raised.

Will it work? · our read
Always current. Pick a subject that goes obsolete fast, then make 'always updated' the product. The publishers' yearly revision cycle becomes your moat, and professors re-adopt every term.

Revenue is STATED, not filed. On the Practical Founders podcast (episode 113), the show notes report founder Stu Draper's account that Stukent grew to 'over 100 employees and nearly $10 million in revenue' with 'less than $1M in outside funding' by its 2021 majority sale to Tritium Partners. That episode page is the sourceUrl and prints the $10M figure verbatim. Stukent is a private company with no audited public filing, so this is a first-party point-in-time figure around the 2021 sale, not confirmed current. The 1M+ figure is Stukent's own homepage claim for students specifically; the site separately claims thousands of instructors, so the two are not combined into one number. Rival company sizes ($1.5B Cengage, $2B McGraw-Hill) are rough public ballparks, flagged as our read. We never score you.
